A Contrast Minimization Approach to Remove Sun Glint in Landsat 8 Imagery
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sun glint, i.e., direct solar radiation reflected from a water surface, negatively affects the accuracy of ocean color retrieval schemes if entering field-of-view observing instrument. Herein, simple and robust method to quantify sun glint contribution top-of-atmosphere reflectances in visible near-infrared is proposed, exploiting concomitant observations glint’s morphology shortwave infrared. The method, termed Glint Removal through Contrast Minimization (GRCM), requires high spatial resolution (ca. 10–50 m) imagery resolve characteristic morphology, meeting additional criteria on radiometric resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, temporal delay between individual band’s acquisitions. It has been applied with good success selection cloud-free Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) scenes, otherwise encompassing wide range environmental conditions terms observation geometry, intensity, types, as well aerosol Rayleigh optical depths. GRCM entirely image based does not require ancillary information sea surface roughness or related parameters (e.g., wind), nor presence homogeneous clear areas under consideration. GRCM’s limitations are discussed, its potential for sensors other than OLI applications beyond removal sketched.

Near Real-Time Browsable Landsat-8 Imagery
The successful launch and operation of Landsat-8 extends the remarkable 40-year acquisition of space-based land remote-sensing data. To respond quickly to emergency needs, real-time data are directly downlinked to 17 ground stations across the world on a routine basis. With a size of approximately 1 Gb per scene, however, the standard level-1 product provided by these stations is not able to se...
متن کاملInundation discriminated using sun glint
Inundation is linked to water, carbon, and energy budgets at landscape to global scales. We describe a new remote-sensing technique for identifying inundated areas based on the properties of the glitter—the strong, angular signature reflection that is characteristic of surface water and uncharacteristic of other cover types. We discriminated three cover types—vegetation emergent above inundated...
متن کاملAtmospheric correction in presence of sun glint: application to MERIS.
The sun glint is a major issue for the observation of ocean color from space. For sensors without a tilting capacity, the observations at sub-tropical latitudes are contaminated by the bright pattern of the specular reflexion of the sun by the wavy sea surface. Common atmospheric correction algorithms are not designed to work in these observation conditions, reducing the spatial coverage at suc...

the frame semantic theory is a nascent approach in the area of translation studies which goes beyond the linguistic barriers and helps us to incorporate cognitive and cultural factors to the study of translation. based on rojos analytical model (2002b), which centered in the frames or knowledge structures activated in the text, the present research explores the various translation problems that...
15 صفحه اولGeneration of Cloud-free Imagery Using Landsat-8
Cloud cover and cloud shadow areas on satellite imagery restrict the practical use of remote sensing data. Thus, cloud screening and filling methods are critical for geospatial users. The recently launched Landsat-8 provides coastal/aerosol and cirrus bands to tackle this problem. In this case, clouds can be accurately detected with Landsat-8 data, and the masked cloud areas could be filled in ...
